The people of the Bluegrass State put pride in all they do and the famed faces that hail from here. Some of our reputations have been earned honestly, like our high-quality distilleries and horses. We are best at things we put effort into perfecting, and there is a long list. One thing is for certain, substitutes aren’t the same after you experience the best things in Kentucky done by Kentuckians.
These are 13 of the best things in Kentucky that Kentuckians do best:
All the Post It sticky notes come through a company in Cynthiana. The little rainbow squares hanging around the average cubicle or on a fridge all across the U.S. started out here in the Bluegrass State.
Regardless if our college teams win or lose, they are still the best. Just ask a local fan.

Most Kentuckians LOVE their college sports teams. Kentucky fans have quite the reputation at being extreme when it comes to supporting their favored team.

People travel from all around to experience the Bourbon Trail tour and learn about the history of bourbon in our state. We are renowned for the flavors and process used in creating our Kentucky Bourbon, and according to bourbon snobs, there is a HUGE difference between Kentucky’s bourbon and other whiskeys and substitutes.
Kentuckians have perfected the art of cooking with bourbon. Bourbon is used in all sorts of recipes including marinades, glazes and sauces for meats, bourbon balls, cakes, cookies, and more. The renowned Thoroughbred Pie utilizes bourbon and replaces pecans with walnuts as an alternative to Derby Pie and is a favored at many a Derby party.
We created it and perfected it. Bluegrass music is one of the heartbeats of this state and none do it better.

No matter where you go in Kentucky, there will be bbq somewhere in town, and potentially burgoo too. Both will likely taste different than then any you had in another town. Each barbecue restaurant and creation in our state has its own unique flavor and tangy, smoky, sweet goodness.
It is no secret that people travel from all around the world just to experience the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Derby Festival, which just recently ended.

There are renowned horse farms scattered across the state but some of the most renowned are in Lexington, Versailles and Shelbyville. Shelbyville has been deemed the Thoroughbred capital of the state.
From my childhood to this day, there is always a gallon jug of homemade sweet tea in the refrigerator at my parent’s home. It was the same at most of my friend’s homes as well.
We are a charming people.
Both Kentucky Fried Chicken and Lee’s Famous Recipe were created by Kentuckians. There are also other restaurants in the state that have renowned fried chicken recipes. That is not even including all those wondrous recipes passed down and homemade. Everyone adds a little bit of special something to make it their own.
"United we stand, divided we fall" is our state motto.
