This Remote Restaurant In Kentucky Will Take You A Million Miles Away From Everything

I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
When it comes to remote restaurants in Kentucky, we have quite a few good ones to choose from. One of our favorites is on a long winding road and sits right on the river. The renowned Captain’s Quarters Riverside Grill is the perfect place to go if you want to get out of the city and just enjoy life relaxing on the waterfront.
First off, it is located on 5700 Captain’s Quarters Road today, but almost 200 years ago, this restaurant was a way station for weary river travelers to unload, wine, dine and rest up. All their cargo was than carted over to Old Harrod’s Creek Road. It was known as the Old Harrod’s Tavern, owned by Captain Cavendar, and was a welcome break from the rolling river and nearby falls.
The first people to stop rode in canoes, rafts and pole boats.
This historic location ALSO saw and served the very first steamboat to come down the river in 1811. The "New Orleans", Robert Fulton’s steamboat made its appearance and passengers got off to enjoy a drink and a meal. The docks would ring with laughter and entertainment, as river travelers mingled day and night.

Captain’s Quarters isn’t just in a historical location.
In fact, some of the original wood and a wall still stand from the Old Harrod’s Tavern. However, the restaurant has grown, been renovated and had a massive outside deck and dining area added over the years. There are not one, but two different Tiki style bar areas open outside, plus a beautiful indoor bar. There is plenty of deck seating and seating around the bars. The smaller outside bar is not open during bad weather or slow nights.
The restaurant has live music several times a month. They also have the Captain’s Quarters Princess, which is a high class dinner boat. Patrons can enjoy a meal as you take a ride down the Ohio River.
They have a variety of choices on the menu, including fresh seafood and fantastic steaks. This is only a small portion of what they actually have on their menu, which changes seasonally. You can get different pasta dishes, fresh made pizza and mouthwatering desserts.
When you look around on the inside, you will find beautiful woodwork, comfortable seating, water related art, and a river view if you are on the window side. If you opt to dine outside on one of the multi layer decks, you will be surrounded by a few elder trees, flowers, and a breathtaking view of the Ohio River. It is perfect spot to dine at sunset and escape in the view.
Captain’s Quarters has provided us with a great experience every time we’ve been here. The food has always been perfect, the service was exceptional, and the view has always been pleasing to the eye. It can be a little crowded on the weekends, but they do their best to accommodate patrons, getting them seated and their appetizers out swiftly. Deck seating goes first, and with good reason. Calling ahead can be advisable on a Friday or Saturday evening.
Remote restaurants in Kentucky are almost always worth visiting, but Captain’s Quarters really stands out in the very small crowd. They have all the elements that create a perfect dining experience. We’ve spent several anniversaries and birthdays there over the years, and plan to spend many more. If you are looking for a remote place away from traffic and the city, put Captain’s Quarters on your “to dine” list.
