I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
Finding the best place to raise a family can be a real challenge. Parents have to think about schooling, environment, health care facilities, plus work and school transportation. Fortunately for parents, Kentucky has a plethora of amazing places to call home. Sometimes a little research is needed to make the choice that would be right for you and your family.
This list is based on a study involving crime, safety, library, grocery, and day care proximity, education, community, housing, and the percentage of children under 9, with residents between 35 to 44 years of age. Different families tend to have their own unique requirements, but according to Niche, here are the 10 best places to raise a family in Kentucky:
Wilmore got an A in crime and safety, along with community. They received a B in all other categories except library access, which was a D… apparently books are becoming irrelevant there. They have around 7.5% middle aged residents, and 8% of children under the age of 9.
Versailles got an A in Education, followed up by C’s in Crime activity and grocery access, and B’s in all other categories. The population is almost 14% middle aged residents, and 18% children under age 9.
Johnny Depp’s home town ranked in at C for library access and crime activity, and B for everything except Daycare, which received an A. There are around 12% middle aged residents, and 13% children under age 9 in the community.
Getting groceries can be a challenge here with a D rating, but a C in community and B’s in all other areas make it sound better. There are also 13% middle aged residents and 14% children under age 9.
This community is evenly spread with a C in community, grocery and library access, and B’s in all others. There are almost 16% middle aged residents and around 15% children under age 9.
Glasgow is all B’s except for library and daycare access, which both graded in at C. When it comes to the residents, there are around 11% middle aged residents and 13% children under age 9. Glasgow is also popular for its famed Highland Games.
This area shares a C in Crime with a few others, and a C in community. However they have an A in education and B in all other categories. They also have 11% middle aged residents, and almost 13% children under age 9. Corbin is famous for KFC, but it's also a beautiful, friendly place to live.
Franklin got B’s across the board except when it comes to daycare access, which got a C. There's balance with both 13% middle aged residents and 13% children under age 9. It's also a serene little town.
Somerset actually got an A rating for education, C for crime and safety, and B for everything else, with 14% middle aged residents, and 10% children under age 9.
Shelbyville makes a lot of lists for positive reasons. It was graded at a B or B+ in all fields, with almost 17% middle aged residents, and 17.4% children under age 9. There's lots of beauty to be seen here, and a fantastic flea market.
It’s important to find the right place to live for our families, based on what we personally deem important. This grading system can be interesting, and other cities are listed via the link if your town is not in the top 10.
