Fort Boonesborough State Park in Richmond is a popular summer destination for its recreated historic fort and museum, but it also happens to be a nice winter time excursion. In 1775, the fort was founded as the second settlement in the state, and it was ideally located along the Kentucky River. Today, the fort has been recreated to be as it once was, so that we can all revisit and appreciate what life was like in the 18th-century. The fort is maintained and developed by the Fort Boonesborough Foundation, and they host events and activities there throughout the year. Although the fort is mainly closed during the winter, they do have a few opportunities to stop by and learn about the history.
And of course the park itself is open all year long so you can get some fresh air and relaxation time.
