Having a collection – perhaps coins, or stamps or even toy dolls – is nothing new. But what if your collection is so enormous and unique that your backyard has become a roadside attraction? Well, Jerry Lotz of Louisville can speak to this, and he’ll likely say he doesn’t mind one bit. He loves sharing his passion for collecting, he even calls it “Jerry’s Junk,” and he totally understands why we all want to line up and gawk at his fascinating backyard.
Jerry Lotz has a passion for tracking down unique items that you'll never see anywhere else. His properties in Louisville are filled with his treasures, but one of them you can see right from the street. Behind Jerry's iron fence, you'll see a museum-type setup of just about any and everything you could possibly imagine.
Jerry began collecting things as a child and it remains his main hobby today. He frequents flea markets and antique shops, looking for just the right pieces to add to his "junk" collection. One of the most notable items is this miniature Statue of Liberty - complete with the face of Richard Nixon.
Jerry's laid back attitude and sense of humor are very apparent in his collection. From E.T. to King Kong enjoying an ice cream cone, no peculiar item is off limits.
You are welcome to stop by and gaze through the fence at the massive collection. If you're lucky enough, Jerry may even come introduce himself and tell you a story (or two) about his beloved treasures. He readily admits that his obsession is quite something, as he knows the whereabouts of every single item he's purchased - and that's a lot to keep track of.
If you've ever accidentally passed Jerry's backyard, you've likely done a double take. The yellow brick road (that he laid himself) may suggest that you've entered some magical world such as Oz, but nope. You have just stumbled upon Jerry's Junk in Kentucky.
While a stop at this roadside attraction is fun in and of itself, might I suggest dining at The Silver Dollar restaurant nearby and then walking over to check out Jerry's backyard. Whether you believe it to be junk or treasure, it's definitely a unique find in Kentucky.
