I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
There is a lot people could learn from Kentucky folks. There is something about the beautiful scenery and “mostly” clean air in our state that just provokes a different type of perspective in life. You don’t have to be wise all of the time, but it doesn’t hurt to be wise some of the time.
Here are 10 lessons people could learn from Kentucky folks:
10. United we stand.

Divided we fall. That is our state logo. If we all stood together, we could accomplish great things in this country.
Most people depend on supermarkets and grocery stores for survival nowadays. My parents instilled the knowledge of how to grow food to survive in us from a young age. As questions about the source of our food arise more often, I become more grateful for that knowledge.
Most Kentuckians, but not all, hunt to put meat on the table, be it venison or wild turkey. If you know how to hunt and process your own meat, combined with gardening, you will NEVER go hungry.
Kentuckians have been making and drinking bourbon for decades. You will not find a finer bourbon that what is produced in Kentucky… just check around. Nor will you find anyone as accustomed to sipping it.
Kentuckians are quite knowledgeable about horses. We know how to breed them, raise them, race them and retire them, especially in Lexington, Versailles and Shelbyville. Some are also quite gifted when it comes to training Kentucky Derby winners.
We know how to host a horse race. It comes with a 2 week festival, hot air balloons, a parade, and lots of entertaining events. This is Kentucky’s version of Mardi Gras… and the people involved really know how to party.
Kentucky hosts the biggest fireworks show in the country with Thunder Over Louisville. We don’t make the fireworks, but the show is on us. We know how to put on a phenomenal fireworks event that gets US recognition.
One thing there is no shortage of in Kentucky is BBQ. No matter where you travel in this state you will run across a few BBQ restaurants and the flavors will ALL be different. Each establishment tends to have their own special sauce that really brings out the flavor of the meats, including smoking techniques.
Kentucky has an abundance of forested lands and parks. Preserving our nature and wildlife is important in this state. Without the rolling hills, lush forests and plentiful deer population, we’d be just another state.
Kentuckians tend to move at their own pace. Some are slower than others, but all have their own sense of time. In this state, we know how to relax, especially if you happen to put a fishing pole nearby.
You may not believe you can learn from Kentucky folks, but there is more knowledge here than you can imagine. Behind those friendly smiles and southern hospitality, lessons have been passed down.
