Happy Birthday, America! And happy 3-day weekend, Americans! Since it’s your long weekend, the last thing you need to do is spend any of it in a hot kitchen… so why not treat yourself (and your family) to a delicious meal out that doesn’t eat up all of your holiday pay? Don’t think such a place exists? Then you obviously haven’t been to any of these 12 incredible Kansas restaurants where you can eat for less than $10 (per person):
1. Burnt End BBQ (Overland Park)
Because what's more American than a grilled and oh-so-tender slab of high quality meat? (Even better? Only a handful of their menu items cost more than $10 each.)
2. China Restaurant (Hugoton)
I don't know about you, but I love me some Broccoli Beef and/or Lo Mein... but do you want to know what I love even more? The fact that I can afford to get both at the tasty and reasonably priced China Restaurant.
3. Al's Chickenette (Hays)
Another All-American meal? Homemade fried chicken with all the trimmings. (P.S. I counted a whole two items on their menu that cost more than $10... win!)
4. Bobo's Drive In (Topeka)
Since 1948, this Kansas institution has been serving the BEST burgers, rings, and hot apple pie at the most AFFORDABLE of prices.
5. Dutch Kitchen Restaurant (Hutchinson)
For hot, Amish-inspired meals, there is only one Dutch Kitchen. (Want to know my personal favorite? The six-ounce Country Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and green beans for an unheard of $9.99.)
6. Saddlerock Cafe (Council Grove)
Need yet another reason to love the made-from-scratch goodness that is the famous Saddlerock Cafe? How about the fact that every single item on their extensive breakfast menu costs well under $10?
7. Patrick Dugan's Coffee House (Garden City)
Why settle for some generic out-of-state based coffee chain when you can get both a hot (or cold) gourmet coffee PLUS breakfast item of your choice for well under $10?
8. Delano Barbecue Company (Wichita)
Pulled pork, homemade slaw, and a side of creamy mac & cheese... please excuse me while I wipe the drool from my chin...
9. Down Home Family Restaurant (Independence)
With a name like Down Home Family Restaurant, you can expect both down-home cooking at a down-home price (and down home burgers served on thick and buttery Texas toast).
10. Rock-A-Belly Deli (Manhattan)
With their large selection of soups and salads all priced less than $10 each, it's no wonder K-State students choose Rock-A-Belly to rock their grumbling bellies.
11. L & T Family Restaurant (Goodland)
Fear not, western Kansas; we haven't forgotten about you or the fabulous L&T Family Restaurant that you are so very lucky to have. (It's a must-stop whenever our family travels along I-70.)
12. WheatFields Bakery Cafe (Lawrence)
What better way to end a list of tasty and affordable Kansas restaurants than with WheatFields Bakery and their large selection of inexpensive baked goods, breakfast items and sandwiches? I'll see you there!
