From the best in agriculture to the best in education, here are 9 things that Iowa is number one at: 1. Corn production TumblingRun/Flickr Iowa grows more corn than any of state in the country. In an average year, Iowa even produces more corn than most countries - about 3 times as much corn as a country like Mexico. 2. Soybean production Jeff/Flickr Iowa also produces more soybeans than any other state in the U.S. 3. Pork production Phil Roeder/FLickr Iowa leads the nation in pork production, with nearly one-third of the nation’s hogs being raised in Iowa. At any given time, there are approximately 20 million pigs in Iowa, and 3 million people. 4. Egg production Slice of Chic/Flickr Iowa’s egg farmers lead the nation in egg production, producing nearly 15 billion eggs per year. That’s almost one out of every five eggs produced in the United States. 5. Graduation rates Pasco County Schools/Flickr We also have top notch education here in Iowa. At 90%, we have the highest graduation rate in the country. 6. Literacy rates San José Library/Flickr At 99%, Iowa also leads the nation in literacy. 7. For the 2013-2014 school year, the Princeton Review names the University of Iowa the number one party school in the nation. 9.
