Love is in the air, and Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. If you’re anything like me, you’ve only just now started thinking about what your plans for the evening will be. And while Iowa is no Paris, there are still plenty of romantic spots to take your sweetheart this Sunday. Try any of these 10 places for starters:
1. Take your lady to a fancy winery.
If you want a woman to love you, you'd better have wine. Bonus points if it's local wine.
2. Take a wine and painting class together.
There's nothing more romantic than sipping a little wine while painting your next masterpiece right next to your sweetie. Pinot's Palette in Des Moines is a great place to go, and most mid-sized cities will have a similar spot.
3. Or pamper each other with a couple's spa retreat.
There are several spas in Iowa, but one really great one to check out is The Raj in Fairfield, pictured above. The Raj is a health resort and day spa that offers several different treatments, including massages and facials. If you're looking to relax and recharge this Valentine's weekend, The Raj is the place for you.
4. If it's seclusion you crave, rent yourselves a cozy cabin at one of Iowa's scenic state parks.
Take a break from your busy, fast-paced life and disconnect for a while with a relaxing stay at one of Iowa's state park cabins. Pictured above is a cabin at Stone State Park in Sioux City.
5. Make her feel like a princess with a picnic in the tower.
This one will probably only be if the weather permits. If it's too cold for a picnic, you still have nine more awesome Valentine's Day options! Pictured above is Clark Tower in Winterset.
6. Check in for a romantic weekend at one of Iowa's many beautiful hotels.
Imagine how nice it will be to take a dip in the pool, or soak in the hot tub - or better yet - a private jacuzzi in your very own suite. Pictured above is Hotel Julien in Dubuque.
7. Take a tour of this real life fairy tale mansion - Salisbury House in Des Moines.
Modeled after the King's house in Salisbury, England, the Salisbury House in Des Moines is as close to a royal palace as Iowa will get. Take your sweetheart on a tour of this manor, and spend the whole day treating her like a queen.
8. Take your man to the coolest new brewery.
Beer is the key to a man's heart. Take him to your local brewery, and you can be sure that his heart will thank you later.
