It’s almost that time again. Soon the scent of pumpkin spice and warm apple cider will flood the air. Fall is a gorgeous season in Indiana and with it comes new reasons to celebrate. If you can’t wait for fall, then you’ll definitely be excited about these 10 unique fall festivals that are upcoming!
1. Nappanee Apple Festival (Sept 15-18th)
Okay, technically this historic festival takes place just before fall, but it's ideal for getting you into the harvesting state of mind! This gigantic festival in Nappanee Indiana welcomes over 80,000 visitors a year and takes place in the heart of town at the intersection of State Road 19 and U.S. 6. Enjoy the largest apple pie in Indiana (7 feet wide!), a parade, rides, exhibits, contests, and so much more.
2. Persimmon Festival (Sept 17-24)
Located in Mitchell, Indiana, this year marks the 70th year of the Persimmon Festival. Persimmon pudding is a staple in southern Indiana and if you've never witnessed this festival in person, you'll want to check it out. Enter the persimmon pudding contest, sample tasty treats, enjoy carnival rides, a parade, and car and antique farm equipment shows. You'll find these events occurring all across the town of Mitchell.
3. Madison Chautauqua Festival of Art (Sept 24-25)
This creative, outdoor crafts fair takes place annually in Madison. This huge arts and crafts showcase is a chance to explore and discover local artistic talent.
4. Pumpkin Fantasyland (Oct 1-31)
Pumpkin Fantastyland can be found in Ligonier and is a month long pumpkin celebration. This fest is known for showcasing well known and famous figures carved out of pumpkins, gourds, and squash. You'll find this at the Fashion Farm in Ligonier.
5. Metamora Canal Days Festival (Oct 7-9)
You'll find this huge festival in the heart of Metamora along their famous canal. Visit this festival to celebrate this 40 year tradition of gathering and enjoying local shops, eateries, crafts, antiques, and collectibles.
6. CowtoberFest (Oct 8-9)
You can check out this Cow-tastic event at Fair Oaks Farm this October. Join them for kids' games and activities, trick or treating, a dance off, pumpkin carving, and so much more!
7. Parke County Covered Bridge Festival (Oct 14-23)
This famous covered bridge fest draws gigantic crowds. This fest originated in 1957 and offers great food, shopping, crafts, and other vendors. This is one fest every Hoosier should check out at least once.
8. West Side Nut Club Fall Festival (Oct 3-8)
This annual fest in Evansville showcases local talent, interesting cuisine (brain sandwiches for instance), three parades, and live entertainment.
9. Apple Festival of Kendallville (Oct 1-2)
This delicious apple fest will transport you back in time to the 1800s. You'll get to sample food prepared over a fire, original entertainment, crafts, antiques, and live demonstrations.
10. Indy German Festival (Oct 8)
This day-long Indianapolis based festival takes place off of Mass Ave at Athenaeum on Michigan Street. You'll want to check out the unique contests, like stone lifting, yodeling, as well as weiner dog races. Come celebrate and be German at this unique fest.
