7 Stores That Anyone Who Grew Up In Indiana Will Undoubtedly Remember

The original Ayres department store in downtown Indianapolis opened in the late 1800s and was well known for its women's fashions, Christmas events and displays, and beloved Tea Room. You're probably more familiar with the smaller branch stores, like this former one in the Indianapolis Glendale shopping center. These stores were found all around the state in citites like Bloomington, Lafayette, Scottsdale, South Bend, Muncie, Merrillville, and Mishawaka.

This former fast food wonder began in Indiana and spread rapidly across the country. By the 1980s this beloved burger joint began disappearing and many locations were converted into Hardees.

This discount store was once America's fifth largest retailer. The original stores began opening in the early 1900s and between 1960 and 1970, these stores were everywhere. By the 1990s, however, they began disappearing, either closing for good or converting to an Ames discount store (another blast from the past).

This beloved Indiana bakery operated from the 1940s until 1999. Some of their most famous treats included their zebra square brownies and their sweetheart coffee cake. Roselyn's had over 40 locations across the Hoosier state at one point.

This palace shaped children's wonderland was called either Child World or Children's Palace depending on where you lived. Owned by Child World, this toy store was the second largest in the country (behind Toys R Us) but by 1992 all of the locations shut their doors forever.

This building used to house a Danner's store, which was once a popular 5 & 10 shop across the Hoosier state.
