Hoosiers are well-rounded people with plenty of interesting quirks. Of course other states have small towns, but we all know people from small town Indiana are the best. What’s so great about these small town Hoosiers? Let’s review:
1. They love talking...
Honestly, a Hoosier will chat your ear off. Hoosiers aren’t afraid to ask questions or introduce themselves and we love hearing more about you. Quick trip to the grocery store? Not in Indiana. You better hone up on your conversation skills first.
2. ...almost as much as they love helping.
Hoosiers can always be seen lending a helping hand and are huge on volunteering. Hoosier neighbors will always help you out, whether it’s borrowing sugar, cat sitting, or helping you with a flat tire. Got a question? I guarantee a Hoosier has the answer.
3. Small town Hoosiers are extremely smart.
How could they not be when they're surrounded by a plethora of top notch universities? Aside from school smarts, Hoosiers have decades of experience on the land to contend with. Hoosiers are all-around smart and know the importance of common sense.
4. They have a great sense of direction.
Most Hoosiers have a keen sense of direction and can navigate based on where the sun is. Lost on a walk or travelling? A Hoosier can always help.
5. They're very honest.
Hoosiers are pretty honest people and they’ll tell you what they think straight forwardly. Want a restaurant review? Need to know where the best hair dresser in town is? A Hoosier will tell you exactly what they think, without being blunt.
6. Small town Hoosiers love to have a good time.
Indiana University was recently voted the biggest party school in the country, so that might help you understand how good natured and fun-loving Hoosiers are. They love to let loose and enjoy a night out (or in) with friends and family. But don’t be mistaken; they only play hard because…
7. They work hard.
Small town Hoosiers are not afraid to work. They’re not lazy and were raised understanding that hard work is important in life. Hoosiers are all about home/life balances though, so don’t misunderstand their work ethic.
8. They're dedicated.
Whether it’s dedication to their families, career, friends, or favorite sports teams, small town Hoosiers are some of the most dedicated people you’ll find.
9. They're tough.
Hoosiers get all four seasons, and winter and summer can be brutal. Couple that with tornadoes and you’ll soon realize that you have to be tough to be a Hoosier. Plus, most of Indiana is rural farming land; land only the tough could help thrive.
10. They're community driven.
This makes a lot of sense since Hoosiers love to help and are also dedicated, but Hoosiers have a strong sense of community. They love making their home better, helping their neighbors, and coming together to support one another.
11. They're proud to be Hoosiers.
Kurt Vonnegut once said, “I don't know what it is about Hoosiers. But wherever you go there is always a Hoosier doing something very important there.” As a fellow Hoosier, his pride in his home state rings true for most small town Hoosiers. They’re extremely proud of this state, think Hoosiers are the best people, and love bragging about where we live.
What other reasons are small town Hoosiers the best? We know there’s a long list!
