7 Things You Have To Do Before You're An Official Hoosier

Indiana’s a great place to call home. Even if you weren’t born here, it’s absolutely possible to convert and become an official Hoosier, but you’ll have some work to do. If you’re from another state or country and are happy to call Indiana home, here are 7 things you’ll need to do before becoming an official Hoosier:

As the state’s official dessert, you’ll need to try a slice of this bad boy before you could ever hope to call yourself a Hoosier. With only three simple ingredients, this pie is delicious and uncomplicated - just the way Hoosiers like it. Bonus points if you learn how to make a killer version of your own.

Not every Hoosier is into racing, but every Hoosier knows what a huge event the Indy 500 is. Even if sports aren’t your thing, there’s live music, tailgating, and a ton of fun happening on race day. Every Hoosier should experience this event at least once.

It’s not just fresh fruit and vegetables (though the produce tastes amazing!). You’ll find vendors selling spices, organic coffee beans, crafts, bread, sweets, pasta, organic poultry and meat, and so much more. You can’t convert until you’ve experienced this magic.

Okay, state fairs might all sound the same, but the Indiana State Fair is a huge event that even has headlining performers. From rides and games to animals and shopping to some of the best food you’ve ever tried, the Indiana State Fair is a must attend event.

Indiana is a very gun friendly state and you should at least experience shooting once in your life before calling yourself a Hoosier. Go to a shooting range for official lessons and take a gun safety class to ensure you know exactly what you’re doing.

Okay, so you are legally not a Hoosier until you go to the BMV and get your Indiana license. What’s a BMV, you ask? Did I mistype DMV? Well, no, actually. Indiana is one of the few states with a BMV (Bureau of Motor Vehicles) as opposed to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) in most states.
