Did you know that at one point, Indiana was slotted to house the next wonder of the world? While the plans didn’t pan out as expected, what remains at this amazing site shows Hoosiers just how promising this marvel could have been.
Located near the limestone capital of the country, Bedford, Indiana, lies the gorgeous ruins of a once stunning attempt to rebuild some of the world’s most famous sites. Using limestone, a resource that’s plentiful and unique to this area, the city decided to attempt to build an amusement park of sorts, featuring breathtaking limestone structures.

The plans were to build a replica of the Great Pyramid of Egypt. While this replica would have been only 1/5 of the size of the actual pyramid, it would have still been quite impressive, standing at approximately 95 feet high. Could you imagine?

In addition to this famous pyramid, the city planned to construct a replica of the Great Wall of China. This version would be relatively smaller, but still quite massive at 650 feet long.
Although the city initially was granted the money it needed to commence the project, the money was eventually revoked by the government, just one year later, leaving the ruins of a project that never reached fruition.
While the Limestone Tourist Park would never come to be, the ruins themselves are quite stunning to look at, and remind us all of the amazing potential Indiana possesses.
