We’ve written about Indiana ghost towns before and even planned this spooky ghost town road trip through the state. However, one ghost town in particular stuck out as a truly creepy place in Indiana. The ghost town of Barbersville, with no buildings left standing, might be the eeriest abandoned town in the state.
Barbersville used to be a town located in Jefferson County, Indiana. Not a lot is known about its origins, but we do know that a post office operated in Barbersville from 1826 until 1838, when it was moved to Ripley County. It was reestablished later in 1848, but transferred again in 1906.

Approximately 50 to 100 residents lived within Barbersville in the 1800s and early 1900s. The town had a corn mill, a one room school building, a general store that lasted for 54 years, and a courthouse, in addition to residents’ housing. None of the buildings exist any longer and by 1915, Barbersville was primarily abandoned and began to decay.

Barbersville, however, is rumored to have been an area connected to the Underground Railroad, and some stories claim this ghost town is haunted. While very little is known about Barbersville today, this video offers a tour of the private grounds, and might answer the question of whether or not this eerie ghost town is, in fact, haunted.
