Let’s face it–life can get stressful. And stress is not good–in fact, it is a factor in 90% of illnesses according to the Mayo Clinic. Luckily, there are some pretty easy things you can do to get that stress out of your life. Here are 10 easy ones.
1. Drink some fine Illinois wine at Blue Sky Vineyard.
Illinois doesn't have a Napa Valley, but we do have a decent wine scene. Rather than drinking at home, head out to an amazing vineyard like Blue Sky and enjoy.
2. Take a long bike ride on Tunnel Hill State Trail.
Nothing is better than hitting the open road on this 45 mile trail that spans across Southern Illinois through some of the most beautiful country you'll see.
3. Treat yo self at Eagle Ridge Resort and Spa.
Yes, this gorgeous shot was taken in Illinois--Galena, to be exact. This amazing resort offers spa services, golf, and an incredible overnight experience.
4. Take a hike at Starved Rock State Park.
Any exercise will help you de-stress to some extent, but exercising in some beautiful scenery will make you even more relaxed. Starved Rock State Park will expose you to canyons, streams, trees, and all sorts of fun wildlife.
5. Kick back and relax at CornerStone Cabins.
Take a mini-vacay and head to CornerStone Cabins. Why stay at the same old places? Enjoy beautiful Pomona and all of the sights nearby.
6. Go see some beautiful art at the Art Institute of Chicago.
There is nothing like great art to immediately put you at ease. Going during off-hours at the Art Institute will allow you to spend time mesmerized in front of your favorite pieces.
7. Stop and smell the roses at the Chicago Botanic Garden.
The many different gardens and plants will immediately make you calm. Seeing how these plants grow and are maintained will give you a sense of peace.
8. Take a drive on Grandview Drive.
You would never know this awesome view was hiding in Peoria. This is a short drive, but alongside, you will see some of the most stunning views in all of Illinois.
9. Head out to the beach.
We don't have too many beaches, but you can feel pretty peaceful hanging out on a beach--even those ones in Chicago. Head up north a little bit to get to ones that are less crowded.
10. Take a kayak out on the Mississippi River.
Really, there is no way to experience the Mississippi River unless you are out there on the water. Rent or take your kayak out and enjoy the scenery.
