The historic small town of Bishop Hill is located in the northern region of the state in the middle of nowhere. Though it was once a bustling community, it currently houses less than 150 residents.

It was settled by Swedish immigrants escaping religious oppression who called themselves the Janssonists. The colony was founded by Erik Jansson and his followers who worked to make their village the "promised land" they were told they'd find.

Built in 1848, this is the Colony Church. It houses the sanctuary on the second floor.
The colony was successful both by way of economics and religious morals. The settlement lasted 15 years before disbanding, and now visitors find museums, unique shops, art galleries, and charming restaurants to entertain.
