Having lived in big cities and small towns, I can attest that it just feels really good if someone acknowledges you as you are walking your dog down the street. In these small Illinois towns we are profiling, you will have that exact feeling when you are out in about.
1. Clarendon Hills
Clarendon Hills is a small town outside of Chicago in DuPage County. While this town does have a population of around 8,000, it is a town where people know who lives where.
Casey is known for its large constructions (holding many Guinness world records). Though it's big in that way, there is still a small town feel.
3. Cherry Valley
Cherry Valley has a population of about 3,000 and is located in Boone County. Although many people who live here commute to Chicago, it still is a town where people get to know one another.
This small town has a population of just around 1500. It is located in Scott County. It is home to this awesome courthouse with amazing architecture.
Tuscola is a town of about 5,000 in Dougas County. While it has a small town flair, it also is a big draw in the area with its outlet mall.
This central Illinois town has a population of right around 5,000. People are crazy about each other almost as much as they are crazy about trains down here.
Milford is a town of just around 800 people located in Iroquois County. Of note in town is the Carnegie Library.
With a population of around 1,300, Ladd is situated in Bureau County. One of the first things you will notice is the giant hill in the center of town. It's the result of decades of mining in the town.
Located in McHenry County, Hebron has a population of around 1200 people. In this small town, you know your neighbors, and they know you.
While this town's population will swell slightly with the influx of visitors, it is still a town when people will call you by name as you are out to eat breakfast. This town has a population of just over 3,000.
Benld is located in Macoupin County, and it has a population of around 1,500. Its claim to fame is that it is one of the few towns where an actual object was hit by a meteorite.
