The Great Depression ran from 1929 through 1939, and World War II ran from 1939 through 1945. The southern states, (especially Georgia), were critical to the war during 1941 through 1945. Georgia gave 320,000 soldiers to the war and thousands of others found jobs related to the war industry. The war was pivotal to Georgia because it helped to lift Georgia’s economy out of the slump that The Great Depression left it in and into mainstream American life.
