The country's most beloved soft drink was created right here in Georgia. In 1886, John S. Pemberton invented the most popular and biggest selling soft drink in history, as well as the best known product in the world. The World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta is still a huge draw for many tourists around the country.
2. The Infamous Burning of Atlanta in Gone With the Wind
Anyone that has watched Gone With the Wind understands the historical significance of the movie, in which you can see firsthand the Union forces under the command of Maj. Gen. William T. Sherman, burning Atlanta to the ground.
If you know your state's history, then you know that James E. Oglethorpe was in charge of the new colony of Georgia. Oglethorpe gave settlers land and supplies and wanted a place that was neither rich or poor. His statue remains in the city of Savannah to this day.

4. The Tomb of Martin Luther King Jr. and Corretta King
One of the most important people ever to come out of Georgia is Martin Luther King Jr., the human rights icon and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize. Everyone in this state understands his significance in history, and his significance for the state.
What should have been a joyous time for the state of Georgia hosting the Summer Olympics turned into a terrible tragedy as a terrorist attack in Centennial Olympic Park killed two people and wounded more than 100.
If you're from Georgia then you most likely know that pecans are a top crop for the state. What you must also know is that Georgia makes some of the best pecan pie ever.
If you're from Georgia, you most likely will immediately recognize the Bulldog as UGA's famous mascot. (And maybe even every time you see a bulldog on the sidewalk, you secretly wonder if it's him.)
