Keep your rain boots handy – experts are warning that the upcoming hurricane season in Florida could be worse than normal.
Forecasters from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration just released a report stating that this year’s stormy season could be the most “active” since 2010.
The report initially predicted a 45 percent chance of an above-normal season, but one day after its release the predicted value was raised to 60 percent.
Experts are saying that Florida could face as many as 14-19 named storms and that 2-5 major hurricanes could strike this season. They’re predicting 5-9 hurricanes overall.
So why is this season shaping up to be so brutal? Scientists say that the chance of El Nino forming has dropped significantly from May, which means that there is less of a chance that budding storms will be weakened before they reach full strength.

Even more chilling is the fact that only nine weeks into the hurricane season, which runs from June 1 to November 30, there have already been six named storms. That’s double the average.
