You’ll Never Forget Your Visit To The Most Haunted Restaurant In Florida
A lot of folks love Ashley’s Restaurant in Rockledge for its classic pub fare and good service, but some people visit Ashley’s for a different reason. It’s rumored to be one of the most haunted restaurants in Florida.
The history of Ashley's Restaurant goes all the way back to the early 1930s, when it was called Jack's Tavern. The Tudor-style building decorated with dark wood and stained glass gives Ashley's the feel of an old English pub. Ashley's has had several owners and names over the years, memorable ones including The Mad Duchess and The Loose Caboose.
The main resident spirit is tied to a gruesome story that has in fact been verified by local newspaper reporting from the time. A young woman named Ethel Allen was last seen at Jack's Tavern before her body was found on the shores of the Indian River, mutilated and burned.
Many patrons, psychics and paranormal investigators who visit the property believe that although her body was found by the river, her murder occurred inside the restaurant.
Visitors report a lot of activity on the stairs and in the women's restroom, and one psychic claimed that Ethel was chased down the stairs and stabbed, before dying in the restroom. Strange occurrences, such as objects moving on their own, the feeling of being tapped or pushed, and even the apparition of a woman in period clothing, have been reported.
Many claim that Ethel is not alone. The presence of other spirits, from either an accident on the nearby train tracks or highway, has also been suggested. Luckily, none of this has stopped locals from patronizing the longstanding eatery, and the restaurant embraces its haunted reputation.
