As you walk through the festively decorated rooms of the Governor’s Residence at Boettcher Mansion, you may feel as though you have stepped onto the stage of one of the holiday classics that many of us cherish. Each year, 6 rooms of the Capitol Hill mansion are beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. This year, each room’s theme was inspired by a Christmas classic performed in Colorado each year.
Last year, the Governor's Residence welcomed well over 5,000 guests during the holiday season for free public tours. They are opening their doors to visitors again this year.
Interior designers from the Colorado chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers were brought in to carry out their unique vision by decorating the rooms.
In this room inspired by Dickens' Christmas Carol, sheet music was used in creative ways to decorate the tree. Popcorn strings, cranberries,and dried orange slices also adorn this traditional tree. Don't miss the mannequin dressed in 19th century clothing or the symbolic crutch propped near the fireplace.

The Palm Room has been transformed into the "Land of Sweets" inspired by Tchaikovskey's "The Nutcracker."
Children and adults alike will delight in the giant, colorful lollipops and cupcakes found in this room with its white columns that resemble candy canes with the red ribbon draped around them. You will love the tree that is topped with a version of Mother Ginger who hid 8 gingerbread children under her skirts. Adding to the musical's theme, you will find 60 pairs of bedazzled toe shoes decorating the tree and surrounding areas that were donated by the Boulder Ballet.
This year's "Wishing Well" ornament is ninth in the series. It is made of brass that is hand-finished in 24K gold. The ornament costs $30 and can be purchased online or at the holiday tours.
Free holiday public tours of the Governor’s Residence are being offered December 7-10 and December 14-17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Reservations are not accepted to this open house-style tour, and docents will be present to answer questions.The Governor’s Residence at Boettcher Mansion is located at 400 E. 8th Street in Denver.
