13 Things Anyone Who Has Waited Tables in Colorado Knows

Like many others, one of my first jobs in high school was as a waitress at a local restaurant and bar. The pay was decent (for a 17-year-old) and it was only a part-time gig, making it doable around both school and after-school activities. Like many other Colorado waiters and waitresses, I quickly learned these 13 things about the job:

1. The Colorado drink of choice is craft beer.

2. You have come to have a love/hate relationship with stoners because they take forever to order...

3. ...but then order A TON of food, meaning a bigger tip...

4. ...so long as they remember to leave one.

5. The concept of Rocky Mountain Oysters no longer grosses you out...

6. ...nor do the eating habits of patrons.

7. If your restaurant has a TV and there is a Broncos...

9. ...or Buffs game on, the place is almost guaranteed to be packed.

10. You have learned to bite your tongue when transplants complain about how Colorado isn't like California... or wherever else they came from.

11. You have also become a pro at ignoring out-of-staters comments on legal weed...

13. Finally, you learn that the restaurant is like a second home and your co-workers are like the weird second family you never knew you wanted.

Obviously, this is the opinion of just one (former) waitress, so what is your take? Also, as a side note: Please tip your servers well—it isn’t an easy job by any means!
