It’s getting to be that time of year again. The temperatures are warming up and Arizonans are getting ready to embark on summer adventures around the state. One of the best ways to avoid the dreadful summer heat is by escaping into the mountains and forests for a few days by camping! You can enjoy a dark, dark sky with endless stars, cool breezes, and getting the opportunity to fully appreciate nature’s beauty.
There are plenty of lovely campgrounds around the state that could contend for a title as “Most Beautiful,” but we’re going to check out one near Williams that offers a little bit of everything.
Kaibab Lake Campground is located just a few miles north of Williams in the middle of a richly forested portion of the Kaibab National Forest. The towering pines, gentle lake waters, and mountains sitting in the distance will make you feel like you’re camping in the middle of nowhere.
The campground is one of the larger sites in the area and has more than 60 campsites for groups and families to enjoy the environment. A few years ago, the campground went through some renovations to make visiting the area more pleasant, such as improving the pavement, parking areas, and adding more campsites.
The campsites sit a short distance from Kaibab Lake and if you choose the right spot, unzipping your tent will provide a lovely view of the lake and all the green that surrounds it.
Each campsite has areas for tents, trailers, or motorhomes, plus grills and tables for use. You’ll also find basic vault toilets and access to drinking water, as well as a place on-site to purchase firewood, ice, and ice cream.
Among the activities you can do here, in addition to camping: boating, fishing, hiking, and simply enjoying nature. Williams is a short drive away where you can check out Route 66 and some tasty restaurants. Flagstaff and the San Francisco Peaks are less than an hour away, and the Grand Canyon is roughly the same distance away!
With so many campsites, you can expect this place to fill up during the summer! If you want to avoid the crowds, try camping before Memorial Day or after Labor Day. Otherwise, head out during the weekdays or just enjoy getting to know your fellow campers.
