There are so many places you can go in Alaska that will make the explorer in you come alive, but a lot of these places are already bustling with people or end up being a dud if you don’t have the right guide with you. From amazing hikes leading to incredible vistas or white knuckle river rides down some dangerous waters, you will end the day feeling satisfied and ready to wake up and do it all over again!
You've got to set out and explore Anchor Point River at some point in your lifetime. The fishing is almost as abundant as the exploring, not to mention you can see multiple volcanos from the shoreline.
Another great destination that will wake the explorer in you is the Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park on Kodiak Island. The rocky shores offer hours of beach combing, but don't forget to keep your eyes on the waterline for breaching whales!
The beaches and wilderness just outside of the bustling town of Seward need more than just a day or two of time dedicated to adventuring. The directions you can travel and sights you can see are endless!
I personally love Tangle Lakes, there are miles and miles of Alaskan interior wilderness. The valley that the lakes fill is beautiful all year round so there is never a reason not to scratch that itch to go on an adventure!
Even though Chena Hot Springs is privately owned and doesn't feel very adventurous, you'll definitely want to stop in for a soak after a long day exploring the rivers edge and surrounding wilderness.
China Dome and Granite Tors are two great hiking destinations in Fairbanks that will truly unleash the explorer on you. These hikes end at some of the coolest sights in Alaska.
Just outside of Anchorage you can hike Wolverine Peak and get some insane views of Williwaw Lake before exploring down even further into the valley. It is truly a must-see!
